Sunday School – History 

Sharon Fellowship Church Sunday School Association

From the very beginning of the Sharon Fellowship Church, Sunday School activities were also initiated in the churches. In 1953, Pastor P. J. Thomas and his co-workers started a small Sunday School class at the Sharon Compound in Thiruvalla. This was the first Sunday School of the Sharon Fellowship. Later, as the churches grew, Sunday School activities also expanded. Until the mid-1990s, the activities were mainly organized at the center or local level. The students used textbooks prepared at Manakala Faith Theological Seminary and the Sharon Bible Institute, Thiruvalla.

However, the first Central Committee of the Sunday School was elected at the C.E.M. General Camp held at Thottabhagam, near Thiruvalla, in December 1997. Dr. T. P. Abraham provided leadership for this initiative. Under the leadership of the first committee, with Pastor K. A. Philip as President and Brother P. J. John as General Secretary, the first centralized annual examination was organized. During this period, a new Sunday School curriculum was also published.

Subsequently, at various times, Pastors Cherian Mathew, Sabu Paul, Abraham Mandamaruthi, Jacob George, and Sanu Joseph served as Directors and led the activities of the association. Sajan C. Jacob, Thankachan T., and Roshi Thomas served as General Secretaries. At present, Pastor Mathew V. Jacob serves as the Director and K. Thankachan serves as the General Secretary.

Today, the Sharon Fellowship Church Sunday School Association has well-organized activities and a structured curriculum. Textbooks for classes from Preschool through Grade 12 have been published in English, Hindi, and Malayalam. The Sunday School Association conducts a wide range of activities, including awareness seminars, camps, premarital counseling, Vacation Bible School (VBS), Mega Bible Quiz competitions, charitable activities, teacher training programs, and the publication of the Athmaprabodhini magazine.
