C.E.M. – History

On 15 April 1957, a group of young people from Thiruvalla and the surrounding areas gathered at Sharon, Thiruvalla. Their purpose was to explore ways of working together to introduce Jesus Christ to their classmates and friends. The discussions held during that gathering gave birth to the youth movement known as C.E.M. (Christian Evangelical Movement). The encouragement and guidance of Pastor P. J. Thomas, his family, and other servants of God who were part of the leadership of Sharon Fellowship Church served as a great inspiration to these young people.

The movement was founded with the primary goal of advancing the Gospel, and it was named Christian Evangelical Movement (C.E.M.), reflecting that mission. Over the past six decades, the vision of successive generations of dedicated leaders, together with the wholehearted support of its members, has enabled the movement to remain distinct among youth organizations while faithfully pursuing its mission of evangelism.

Objectives

The primary objective of C.E.M. is to lead souls to Christ. Alongside this, it seeks to promote the spiritual, social, and emotional growth of the youth within the Church and to cultivate a strong vision for evangelism among them.

To achieve these goals, C.E.M. organizes:

• Bible study programs

• Seminars and training sessions

• Youth camps

• Evangelistic meetings

• Tarrying (waiting) meetings

• All-night prayer meetings

• Courtyard/Open-air conventions

The movement also engages in charitable and community service activities with a strong sense of social responsibility, works for the unity and integrity of the nation, and strives to promote unity among Pentecostal churches.
