Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh is the northeastern-most state of India, often called the “Land of the Rising Sun” because it receives the first sunrise in the country. It shares international borders with China, Bhutan, and Myanmar, making it strategically important and culturally diverse. The state is known for its beautiful mountains, forests, rivers, and tribal heritage. The capital city is Itanagar.

Arunachal Pradesh covers an area of approximately 83,743 square kilometers, making it one of the largest states in Northeast India geographically. However, due to its mountainous terrain and dense forests, many regions remain remote and difficult to access. The estimated population is around 16 lakh (1.6 million) people.

The people of Arunachal Pradesh belong to many tribal communities, each with distinct languages, customs, and traditions. Major tribes include Nyishi, Adi, Galo, Apatani, Monpa, Mishmi, and Tagin. The state has rich cultural diversity, but many villages still face challenges related to transportation, healthcare, education, and employment.

The economy of Arunachal Pradesh is primarily based on:

Religion in Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh is one of the most religiously diverse states in India. According to Census-based estimates:

• Buddhists – 11.77%
• Muslims – 1.95%
• Others/Traditional Tribal Religions (including Donyi-Polo and indigenous faiths) – around 26–27%

Many tribal communities continue to follow indigenous faiths such as Donyi-Polo, which centers on the worship of the Sun and Moon. Christianity has grown significantly in recent decades, especially among tribal populations. Buddhism is prominent among tribes near the Tibetan border, especially in Tawang and surrounding districts.
