Bihar
Bihar is one of the most historically significant and densely populated states in India. Located in eastern India, Bihar covers an area of about 94,163 square kilometers and has a population of more than 13 crore (130 million) people, making it one of the largest states in the country by population. The capital city is Patna, an ancient center of learning and culture.
Bihar has a rich spiritual and historical heritage. It is the land where Buddhism flourished under Gautama Buddha, and it has deep connections with Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. The state is home to many important religious and historical sites such as Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, and Vaishali. Despite its rich heritage, Bihar continues to face major social and economic challenges including poverty, unemployment, migration, lack of infrastructure, floods, and limited industrial development.
Economically, Bihar is primarily agriculture-based. A large percentage of the population depends on farming and daily labor for survival. Crops such as rice, wheat, maize, sugarcane, and pulses are widely cultivated. However, the state still ranks among the economically weaker states in India, with many families struggling for stable income, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Many young people migrate to other Indian states or abroad seeking better jobs and living conditions.
