Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh (UP) is India’s most populous state and one of its most historically, culturally, and spiritually significant regions. Covering an area of approximately 240,928 square kilometres, it is located in northern India and shares borders with several Indian states as well as Nepal. The state capital is Lucknow, while cities such as Varanasi, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Agra, and Noida play major roles in its cultural and economic life.

Population

Uttar Pradesh has an estimated population of around 250 million (25 crore) people, making it not only the largest state in India by population but also one of the most populous sub-national regions in the world. The state is home to numerous ethnic groups, languages, and cultures, with Hindi and Urdu being widely spoken.

Religious Composition

According to the latest official Census data (2011), the religious composition of Uttar Pradesh is approximately:

• Hindus: 79.73%
• Muslims: 19.26%
• Christians: 0.18%
• Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and others: 0.83% (combined)

Although Christianity represents a very small percentage of the population, there are faithful believers and churches serving in many parts of the state. The vast majority of people still need to hear the Gospel in a personal and meaningful way.

Economic Status

Uttar Pradesh has one of India’s largest state economies and contributes significantly to the nation’s agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and services sectors. The state is a leading producer of wheat, sugarcane, rice, potatoes, and milk. Industrial hubs such as Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur are experiencing rapid growth in electronics, information technology, textiles, leather, and manufacturing.

Despite economic progress and increasing investment, many districts continue to face challenges such as poverty, unemployment, inadequate healthcare, educational disparities, and rural underdevelopment. Millions of migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh seek employment in other parts of India and abroad.

1. Pray for salvation among the millions who have never heard the Gospel clearly, that God would open hearts to His truth.
2. Pray for pastors, evangelists, missionaries, and local churches, that they may be strengthened, protected, and empowered by the Holy Spirit to minister faithfully.
3. Pray for unity and peace among the diverse religious and cultural communities, and that mutual respect and harmony may prevail.
4. Pray for the youth, that they may find opportunities for education, employment, and godly direction instead of falling into addiction, crime, or hopelessness.
5. Pray for the poor, farmers, labourers, and marginalized communities, that their economic conditions may improve and that they may experience God’s provision and care.
6. Pray for families, that they may experience love, reconciliation, and strong moral values, leading to healthier communities.
7. Pray for revival across Uttar Pradesh, that the Holy Spirit would bring spiritual awakening, resulting in transformed lives, growing churches, and the spread of Christ’s love throughout the state.
